The White House is pressuring Harvard University to settle for more than Columbia's $221 million deal to restore frozen federal funding. President Trump is reportedly involved, aiming to set a precedent for elite universities.

Columbia University announced on Wednesday that it has reached a deal with the Trump administration to resolve several federal probes into allegations that it had violated anti-discrimination laws, following months of negotiation to restore federal funding to the school.

The White House had canceled more than $400 million in research funding to the university, saying it had failed to protect Jewish students from harassment.
