The executive ranks of the cable network entity spinning off from Comcast/NBCUniversal later this year have been filled in with a handful of appointments.

Val Boreland, an executive who has specialized in acquiring content for the various cable networks owned by NBCUniversal, will lead the entertainment operations of those outlets whey they are spun off from the company later this year.

Comcast's SpinCo has set its future leadership team as the company prepares to spin-off its cable television network portfolio later this year. Upon completion, the publicly-traded entity will house USA Network,

Taiwan and China traded barbs over what the government in Taipei suspects was a Chinese-linked ship's damage to an undersea communications cable off the island's coast, an incident that has raised alarm bells on the island.

Taiwan's coast guard said it sent a ship to investigate a report on Friday from telecoms provider Chunghwa Telecom that an undersea communications cable had been damaged off the island's north coast.
