Cities with first-time fire zone designations include Santa Monica, La Cañada-Flintridge, South Pasadena, Alhambra, Huntington Beach, Laguna Hills, Chino Hills and Rancho Cucamonga.

Some cities had fewer acres in the very high risk designation, but most of the region had more high risk acreage.

More than 3.5 million additional acres across Southern California, including Los Angeles County, have been designated as fire hazard zones under updated maps released on Monday by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire).
