Police officers responded to a call of a person shot at the 700 block of East 43rd Street just before 3:30 p.m. and found five victims had been struck by gunfire, Chicago police said. A woman in her 60s was shot in the leg and transported to UChicago Medicine in serious condition, according to a preliminary police notification.

A woman was killed and five other people were hurt when gunfire erupted early Sunday at a large gathering in a Chicago neighborhood, according to police.

John Perteet, 38, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the July 11 shooting, according to the Chicago Police Department. Police said Perteet allegedly shot and killed a 43-year-old man in the 13200 block of S. Langley Avenue.
