As fire crews battle major blazes in the Los Angeles area, Northern California remains largely free of wildfire risk thanks to a stark contrast in weather patterns.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Firefighters from Fresno have joined the battle against the fierce flames in Southern California. The local crews are on the frontlines of the Palisades Fire, seeing the destruction first hand.

Donations are being accepted online at socal.salvationarmy.org/southern-california/california-wildfires/ for wildfire relief efforts in Southern California. The Salvation Army has trained staff that is mobilizing to provide food, water, shelter and other needed resources.

With multiple wildfires and high winds impacting the greater Los Angeles area and other parts of southern California, local airports and many common tourist destinations are affected.

The Palisades, Eaton and Hurst wildfires raging in Southern California will be fueled by peak winds of 100 mph, placing 19 million people at risk. NBC News meteorologist Angie Lassman has the details on Early Today.
