Authorities in Germany say a vehicle slammed into a group of pedestrians in the southwestern city of Stuttgart, injuring several people, some of them seriously.

BERLIN (Reuters) -At least eight people were injured, three of them seriously, after a car drove into a crowd in the centre of the southwestern German city of Stuttgart on Friday in what police said was a "tragic" traffic accident.

The driver of an SUV that hit a group of people waiting at a tram stop in the south-western German city of Stuttgart has been released from custody, police and the public prosecutor's office said on Saturday.
