A tsunami advisory was issued late Tuesday for portions of coastal British Columbia after one of the most powerful earthquakes in recent history struck off the Kamchatka Peninsula in eastern Russia.

At 11:24 am local time on July 30, 2025, a powerful earthquake struck offshore of the Kamchatka Peninsula, triggering a tsunami in the Pacific Ocean.

Japan’s meteorological agency issued a tsunami alert for the Pacific coast, upgrading an earlier advisory stemming from the magnitude 8.0 quake near Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula.
