A video of the protest in Seoul South Korea, which has since gone viral - especially on X (formerly known as Twitter) - showed people rallying specifically against the controversial practice in China.
While eating dog or cat meat is viewed as a taboo in the West, the practice has become ingrained in the local culture of some regions in China.
Trading in pet meats is also illegal. But the “culture” of immigrants from places where cats are consumed (like China’s Guangdong province) in no way prevents them from being entirely American.
In the 19 th century, West Coast Chinese immigrants were alleged to be eating cats and dogs, and this was used to justify discriminatory policies like the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882.
