A magnitude 6 earthquake shook Afghanistan’s eastern provinces of Kunar and Nangarhar at about midnight on Monday (19:30 GMT, Sunday). News agencies cited Afghanistan’s Information Ministry as saying that more than 250 people were killed and 500 were injured.
The quake, near the border with Pakistan, injured more than 2,500 people in mountainous areas that rescue workers took hours to reach.
Hundreds are feared dead after a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck in eastern Afghanistan on Monday. The Taliban governments says dozens of homes are "under rubble" while entire villages have also been destroyed.
