Miami International Airport is projecting a record-setting flower haul this Valentine's season, with an estimated 1,500 tons of cut flowers coming through every day between Jan. 1 and the end of February.

Thousands of airport workers play a pivotal role in whether romantics across the United States enjoy the next few days. The country’s top two sources of fresh-cut flowers are Colombia and Ecuador. MIA receives 91% of all flowers that are imported by air.

The Miami airport received more than 3 million tons of cargo last year, with flowers accounting for nearly 400,000 tons, worth more than $1.6 billion.
