Southwest Airlines has agreed to pay its pilots an estimated $45 million in bonus "gratitude pay" for working through the company's service meltdown.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the average salary for airline and commercial pilots in the United States in 2025 is around $160,970 per year, or roughly $77 an hour.
