As the Gulf disturbance nears Texas, tropical moisture will surge Friday and Saturday in the Houston metro area, leading to increasing storm chances.
Tropical Storm Fernand formed far out in the central Atlantic and is currently hundreds of miles east-northeast of Bermuda. It poses no danger to land. Invest 99L also managed to survive over the weekend and is headed westward through the Caribbean, but isn’t expected to develop over the next week.
If this storm becomes more organized before it moves over land, it would become Tropical Storm Fernand. A potential tropical storm in the Gulf of Mexico could form and make landfall in Texas or Mexico before Erin even threatens land.
Invest 98L could become a short-lived tropical depression before moving inland over northeastern Mexico or southern Texas later today. The National Hurricane Center is tracking two systems in the Atlantic basin, according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center.
2019:Tropical Storm Fernand, Sept. 3-5, 2019, was aother short-lived storm that also made landfall in Mexico. It formed in the Gulf east of Las Pesca, Mexico, before making landfall Sept. 4 north-northeast of La Pesca with estimated winds of 46 mph.
The National Hurricane Center is tracking three systems in the Atlantic basin, including a new homegrown system that appeared late Aug. 12.
(1) Tropical wave - ’90-L’ over the SW Atlantic was upgraded to tropical storm “Fernand” late Saturday & moved well east of Bermuda Sun. night. Fernand will continue moving northeast over the open North Atlantic becoming post-tropical. No impacts to any land areas.
Tropical Storm Fernand is heading into the North Atlantic, where it will die in a day or so. Otherwise, the Atlantic is quiet.
