Freelance meteorologist Colleen Mehlberg has been filling in on weekend newscasts at WBAY this summer, but now the station has a permanent hire. The National Hurricane Center said on Aug. 28 it is keeping tabs on three tropical waves in the Pacific Ocean and one in the Atlantic Ocean.

As we enter the holiday weekend, the odds of some strong wet weather and flooding go up in South Florida, forecasters say. Some areas could get soaked with more than 10 inches of rain.
