An Allentown police officer is charged with assault for pistol-whipping a man during an arrest last month, according to authorities. Abviud Carvajal, 30, of South Whitehall Township, faces charges of aggravated assault and simple assault for allegedly hitting the man with the muzzle of his handgun following a police chase July 23.

A 61-year-old man shot and killed his neighbor in rural Pennsylvania Thursday and then ambushed first responders, wounding two state troopers and causing an EMT to crash a vehicle while firing dozens of rounds from a semiautomatic weapon, police said. The attacker was later killed by police.
