STMicroelectronics on Thursday said it is launching a new computer chip targeting the booming market for AI data centre equipment, which it has developed in cooperation with Amazon's web services arm (AWS).

STMicroelectronics has launched a new data center photonics chip, developed in collaboration with AWS. Dubbed the PIC100, STMicroelectronics said the chip will support incoming 800Gbps and 1.6Tbps optical interconnects across all workloads, including artificial intelligence (AI).
