Belize authorities declared a full emergency immediately after the incident started, around 8:30 a.m. local time, according to a statement by the Belize Airport Concession Company.

The suspect was later shot dead by a fellow passenger. The incident occurred mid-air on a Tropic Air flight V3HIG, operating a routine domestic service from Corozal (CZH) to Belize City (BZE).

It later landed at the Philip SW Goldson International Airport in Belize City, where the passengers and pilot were taken to hospital. After landing, Brown handed his firearm over to police.
