Republican Sen. Josh Hawley voted with Democrats to advance legislation to ban members of Congress from owning individual stocks.

Republican Sen. Josh Hawley on Thursday dismissed a dustup with President Donald Trump over a stock trading bill to a misunderstanding, saying he’d spoken with the president in the hours after he dressed him down as a “second-tier senator” and the pair had a good conversation.

The stock has performed exceptionally well in recent months leading up to the fourth quarter earnings, increasing by nearly 60% in the past three months

Microsoft stock surged on better-than-expected financial results for its latest quarter and strong guidance, putting the tech giant on track to hit a $4 trillion market cap. The beat was driven in part by double-digit revenue growth in the tech firm’s closely watched Azure cloud business.

Shares in the tech giant jumped after earnings came in above estimates. CEO Satya Nadella said that cloud and AI continue to drive the company's growth. Microsoft stock surged in after-hours trading on Wednesday after the tech giant beat analysts' expectations for another straight quarter.

Analysts surveyed by FactSet expect the company to post adjusted earnings of $1.43 a share on revenue of $89.36 billion. Those numbers would mark a slight increase from the year-ago period, when Apple reported earnings of $1.40 a share on revenue of $85.78 billion.
