U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi appointed DEA Administrator Terry Cole as the "emergency police commissioner" of the Metropolitan Police Department.

Washington, D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb filed a lawsuit on Friday challenging U.S. President Donald Trump's attempt to take control of the district's police department, in a move likely to escalate the tensions between the city's leadership and the Trump administration.

"This is an affront to the dignity and autonomy of the 700,000 Americans who call D.C. home,” District of Columbia AG Brian Schwalb says.
