Before setting up the tanks, I always start with the background. I use either frosted or matte black and I don’t use any other color. In planted tanks, a frosted background looks better as it gives a sense of depth. Some people prefer to paint the back glass but that’s not for me, it’s more troublesome and harder to reverse.
