Here's exactly what happens every time your heart beats 🫀 It starts with an electrical signal from the SA node — your heart's natural pacemaker. That signal tells your atria to contract, pushing blood down into the ventricles. Then the ventricles contract (ventricular systole): 🫀 Right ventricle → pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs 🫀 Left ventricle → pumps oxygen-rich blood to the rest of your body After that, the heart enters diastole — a brief relaxation where the chambers refill and pre

Tidaling is a fancy word for the fluctuations seen in the fluid of the water-seal chamber during respirations (think of the ocean 🌊 ). This change occurs due to the changes of pressure in the chest during ventilation. The fluid level will rise with inspiration and fall with expiration. This is reversed if a patient is using positive pressure ventilation. Tidaling is NORMAL and indicates that the chest tube is patent. If tidaling is not noted, this indicates that your chest tube is not patent. S

🫀 A-Fib vs A-Flutter — same atria, VERY different electrical problems ⚡ Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Multiple chaotic electrical impulses fire throughout the atria. There are no true P waves, the baseline is fibrillatory, and the rhythm is irregularly irregular. Loss of coordinated atrial contraction → blood stasis → ↑ stroke risk. 🔺 Atrial Flutter (A-Flutter) A single macro-reentrant circuit (usually in the right atrium) fires in a loop. This creates sawtooth flutter waves with a more regular v

We finally have answers! I have a large hole (right to left shunt) in my heart, aneurysmal atrial septum, and an enlarged left atrium. This is what is creating all my symptoms due to blood spilling from the right side of my heart to the left and causing issues. I thank Winter Garden Advent Health for not dismissing me and getting to the bottom of the symptoms. I will have surgery within a month or 2 to close the hole. Thank you all for the prayers! I tear up thinking about how many people were p
