Straightening the cross slide gib off the American Pacemaker using techniques I learned from the scraping and machine rebuilding courses I took. Using our Starrett granite surface plate, start by hinging the gib then use feeler gages or shim stock to determine the approximate bow in the gib. Set the ends of the gib on blocks, get a dial indicator on the top surface and use a clamp to bend the gib downward in controlled movements, taking note of how far it’s forced down each time.
